This school was started by Rev. Fr. Roland Perera on 25th January of 1942 with 59 students.Mr. K. Marks Perera was the first head master of the school.
At the end of 1942 number of students increased up to 112. As The medium of education was English, therefore it was a very good opportunity for old boys of St. Xavier to achieve higher employment position. There were scholarship scheme aiming our school from other schools in rural areas which were educating their students in sinhala medium.
By the time our school was registered by the government as an English medium school.
The Bishop of Chillaw was very pleased on the development of school. And he established St. Paul Seminary by amalgamating with the St. Xavier, Marawila.Rev. Fr. Lanza took a keen in rest in the school and he established a science lab in 1954 of which era the science education limited I Sri Lanka.
He also built up a beautiful church for us on our traditional architecture by Professor Bell.Rev.Fr.Andradees (Principal) untiring effort resulted in broadening the curriculum and sports activity. Due to these effort St. Xavier could produce Sportsman like A.J.Jayawardana, Piyadasa Fernando, Broono Fernando at national level and Felvian Fernando at the international level.
In 1960 this was promoted to be grade considering the number of students, exam result and sports activity.
