As a result of Hon. C.W.W. Kannangara’s concept of free education, Central College, Madampe came into being on 3rd January, 1946.
It was possible because of the then well known philanthropist Hon. Mudlier Lowrence Senanayake’s generous act of offering the land free, for the purpose.
Accordingly, under the able guidance and leadership of the principal, Prof. Thennakon Wimalananda, the school started its functioning with fifteen (15) pupils in 1946.
