The necessity of a Girls school to Dankotuwa area was a concept of Rev. Fr. Bede Fernando(Late) , the parish priest of Godella in 1981. As a result, the resourceful land in which, Dankotuwa Balika Vidyalaya is now started was donated by the Bishop of Chilaw Rt. Rev. Dr. Frank Marcus Fernando in 1981. In 1993 , with the collaborative effort of the religious leaders, politicians and well wishers the school was established with 4 teachers and 149 students under the guidance of inspiring and erudite Principal Rev. Sr. W B M Fernando, a member of the congregation of the sisters of the Holy Angels of Sri Lanka. Expansion and progress in studies and co-curricular activities go hand in hand under her superb Administration. The students as well as the Academic staff have increased in number. The staff consists of 61 Teachers and the total number of Students is 1700.
During the period of past 14 years the school has attained great achievement in divisional, Zonal, Provincial, National and international levels in the fields of education, co-curricular activities and extra curricular activities and have been appreciated and awarded. Thus the school has reached the international level because of the Unity, co - operation, dedication and commitment to the service of the Principal and the staff as well as students. And the Education Department, Government, school development Board, parents and the well wishers of area have made a very positive contribution to the speedy development of the school. |
